Hypocrites’ Struggle to Strengthen Deviant Ideologies Instead of Islam

Aiming to weaken Islam, hypocrites advocate all kinds of deviance opposed to religion

In the Qur’an, God reveals that hypocrites would be ‘seeking to cause conflict [fitnah]’ (Surat at-Tawba, 47) when they are among Muslims. ‘ Fitnah ’, in other words, strife, is where hypocrites succeed the most because they have a dark and psychopathic soul just like satan. Since hypocrites are under satan’s constant control, wherever there is sedition, they would follow heatedly. They have no interest in any act of goodness, kindness, or any affair that would be for the benefit of Muslims, and they are never willing to pay sincere service to Islam. With an evil urge, they always tend towards corrupt and repulsive wrongdoings. Negativities, abnormalities, deviant manners and thoughts pull at hypocrites like a magnet. They are predisposed to everything that God is not pleased with and Muslims refrain from. Irrational and deviant thoughts and behaviors a Muslim cannot even imagine are very ordinary for a hypocrite.

Muslims live their lives within the boundaries defined by God. They are very meticulous in living by the moral values of the Qur’an. They think in conformity with the Qur’an and live a life that God is pleased with. Unbelievers are, however, people ‘who have no boundaries’, ‘who set their own rules’ and ‘who do not recognize the morality described in the Qur’an.’ Yet, they openly tell what they think, how they see things and live without hiding their opinion from others.

The dangerous aspect about hypocrites is that ‘they hide their real thoughts but appear as Muslims.’ They are double-faced and insidious. Even though they seem like Muslims on the surface, they have another evil character inside. In one verse, God reveals this aspect about hypocrites as follows, “When you see them, their outward form appeals to you, and if they speak you listen to what they say. But they are like propped-up planks of wood. They imagine every cry to be against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. God fight them! How they are perverted!” (Surat al-Munafiqun, 4).

Even though the hypocrites who appear as Muslims on the outside manage to speak well with high-flown articulation, they are actually weak, instable, characterless, undignified creatures described in the verse as ‘propped-up planks of wood.’ God explicitly informs that they are ‘the enemy’; that is why hypocrites would watch for any opportunity they could show their hostility. They are ready to perpetrate all sorts of enmity and evil against Muslims, so they spare ‘no abnormal behavior, deviance or perversion in doing this.’ For instance, they ‘even see no harm in getting in contact with dangerous people.’ On the contrary, establishing intimate relationships with such perilous and dreadful individuals gives hypocrites ‘an irreligious form of excitement’. They take a devilish pleasure because of their treachery.

Muslims strongly avoid this evil world of abnormal, aberrant, and perverted people fallen into deviation. While they avoid making contact with such depraved persons and even keep away from being in the same room and breathing the same air with them, the hypocrites consider their intimacy to be a secret achievement when they do. This enhances their self-confidence in an evil way. As their treachery grows more in multitudes, so does their level of hypocrisy and this gives them great confidence.

Muslims appraise every matter based on the teachings of the Qur’an. Therefore, arguments like ‘what other people think’, ‘the requisites of the era’, ‘the facts of life’, ‘modernity’, ‘enlightenment’, ‘reform’, and ‘keeping up with the times’ would be invalid. If God is not pleased with an activity, deed, attitude, behavior, a person or persons, then so does a Muslim. Muslims approach matters with the perspective of God following His criterion.

That being so, a believer knows that twisted logics like, “one needs to be tolerant, understanding, and merciful towards a deviant behavior” comes from satan’s suggestions. Of course, Muslims are the most compassionate and understanding people in the society. But their distinctions of what is right and wrong are always in compliance with the Qur’an. Therefore, Muslims would never approach the acts of people who engage in perverted behaviors, which God does not approve of and reveals as a deviance in the Qur’an, with respect and acceptance–in the name of being merciful.

Yet, this does not mean sanctioning any physical or spiritual persecution implemented towards such people. Muslims prescribe that every wrong action should be corrected through ‘ideas’. Making someone embrace an idea by means of coercion or force, or disabusing him or her of a deviant affair by using pressure or might is not right. But this does not require supporting such deviancy in the name of showing mercy to people.

Therefore, a Muslim asserts his point of view and attitude clearly under such circumstances and takes a solid stand in such a case. Even if a majority of people endorses a deviant act, believers behave according to God’s commandments and boundaries and assess events in line with the teachings of the Qur’an.

Hypocrites support homosexuality in order to bring a deviant understanding to replace Islam and to win the favor of unbelievers

It is clear that according to the Qur’an homosexuality is ‘a perverted and deviant act.’ Throughout history, Muslims’ attitude on this matter has been very straightforward. All Muslims know that homosexuality is ‘an unlawful act and at the same time an ugly foulness.’ However, the hypocrites’ attitude on this matter is not like Muslims’. Hypocrites regard the morality God is pleased with as ugly and what God does not approve as beautiful. They do not like the way Muslims live, but they adore the life style of unbelievers. They strive to distort the good morality of Islam through deceitful or deviant ideas or attitudes. They seek power and dignity not with what is right and just, but with whoever appears to be stronger at that moment.

Since hypocrites are people with no dignity or honor, they dive right into any abnormality, repulsiveness, fallacy, discord, mischief or deviation they can find. Whatever God does not approve of or dislikes pulls hypocrites like a magnet. Any wrong, perverted and evil person or activity is an important part of hypocrite’s life. Therefore, they definitely come into contact with such perverse people or groups and try to be a part of their dark affairs. In fact, ‘homosexuality’ is one of these. Even though hypocrites are aware that it is ‘a hideous deviation’, they take a secret pleasure out of ‘being friends with homosexuals, having sympathy for them or being one of their advocates.’ This evil sympathy is sourced from their apprehension that it is an affair that God does not approve of and is against the Qur’an.

Hypocrites follow all the misdeeds that satan shows them as admirable and in time they become ‘the devil’s toy’. One of the things that satan incites hypocrites is ‘to have sympathy for’ and ‘to support homosexuals.’ While under normal circumstances they need to be revolted by the disgusting and immoral attitudes of the homosexuals, hypocrites take an evil pleasure from establishing friendships and making contacts with them.

Hypocrites are materialistic and shallow people, and they only look after their own immediate interests. They admire and want to be like unbelievers. They make too much of the foremost, famous, popular unbelievers of the community they live in. They have great admiration for ‘deep state members who deal with dirty, evil and illegal affairs, members of secret organizations and people exploited by illegitimate intelligence agencies’ as this fits with their own insidious pursuit. They do not believe in God’s eternal power, but in the power of such people at the backstairs of this dark world. Because of their weak reasoning, they believe that these people actually rule the world and this evil system will prevail in the end.

The people of this dirty world that they follow with envy and longing arouse profound excitement in hypocrites. With this wannabe spirit, they draw near these people with admiration and try to do whatever they can to sell themselves. In order to be appreciated by these people whom they assume to be strong, they support all kinds of irreligious views and ideas without hesitation.

Besides this, hypocrites think that being like unbelievers will ‘give them a modern, foresighted or liberal identity.’ Today there is an ‘impostor Muslim’ model that endorses deviant affairs, which have no place in Islam, ‘in the name of so-called modernity’, and establishes deep friendships with unbelievers by introducing themselves as ‘Muslims who do not attach any significance to religion.’

Through the endorsement of this deviant approach by these impostor Muslims who are in admiration of unbelievers, today homosexuality has come to be supported as a legitimate affair by large masses throughout the world. This is exactly what hypocrites are looking for. Hypocrites side with sexual perverts, homosexuals and all other deviant life styles trying to legitimize these perverse ideologies. The reason that hypocrites condone such a loathsome affair is that some hypocrites are also inclined to such perversion, and some of them want to be known in society as ‘modern’, ‘intellectual’ or ‘liberal’ people. And there are some that promote homosexuals to introduce themselves as ‘irreligious Muslims who have sympathy for unbelievers.’

The reason lying beneath this choice of hypocrites is that they are pathetic losers and mixed-up wannabes with an inferiority complex who are very weak against unbelievers. Since they do not trust in and submit to God’s power, they seek that power in ‘ideas, people and ideologies popular in society’ and ‘subjects trending in that time’. In order to win the favor of prominent, famous people in society whom they consider as high quality and intellectuals, they support the circles and subjects that these people champion.

Because of this deviant and evil point of view, for some people taking homosexuality as normal equals being an intellectual. They defend that protecting homosexuality is a problem of human rights that must be stood up for. Actually this is a mere reflection of the hypocrite’s loss of dignity and wretched state of mind. In order to be accepted by the prominent people among unbelievers and to attain financial opportunities through them, hypocrites ‘try to be sycophants to homosexual perverts.’ These hypocrites who seek to distort religion from within and turn people away from the moral values of Islam, make use of such perversions and aim at degenerating the religion of Islam. Through diabolical lies, they try to give the image that ‘even a Muslim can lean towards homosexuality and defend the rights of these people’ and attempt to ‘bring a deviant interpretation and understanding into Islam’. True religion and the evil, irreligious and selfish system in their minds do not match. Therefore, hypocrites try to fit religion into their own mentality through deviant interpretations. To do this, they take advantage of the immorality of unbelievers and try to bring such deviation into religion.

Therefore, they subscribe to revolting, deviant and dangerous acts such as ‘homosexual marriages’ or ‘homosexual’s adopting children with an aim to bring them up as homosexuals as well’. It is very clear that under such abhorrent circumstances, these adopted children could be subject to serious sexual abuse and they would be put into real danger. As a result -as revealed by many studies- these children adopted by homosexuals would in the end be exposed to diseases like ‘psychiatric disorders’ and ‘substance abuse.’ They would grow up to become people ‘inclined to sexual assault and suicide’ and ‘face the risk of catching sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS.’ For example, today in the USA, there are 94,627 households consisting of homosexual couples with children and the total number of children living with at least one gay parent is estimated to be ranging from 6 to 14 million. This horrifying picture that children are exposed to is enough to understand the gravity of the situation.

Muslims who become cognizant of these insidious games supported by the hypocrites in the Islamic world have a great responsibility. Believers must tell these deviant people in a reasonable way that what they are doing is ‘an immoral and perverted act’ and call them to the right path. They must educate people by telling them about the ugliness of this loathsome act and must prevent this deviation from spreading within the society. Once this disgusting perversion is abased properly and people have a thorough understanding of this abnormality, this will prevent ignorant people from inclining to this deviancy to a great extent.

Therefore a serious intellectual struggle must be carried out against the legitimization and encouragement of homosexuality. All Muslims have a responsibility to tell the people the truth in order to forestall such deviant affairs in society. An act, which God does not approve of and reveals to be a deviancy, is not only something that Muslims must avoid but also have a responsibility to communicate the truths about. However, of course it is definitely unacceptable and very wrong that some ignorant people persecute such deviant people or harm them physically.

ADNAN OKTAR: “Do you not see those who have turned to people with whom God is angry?...” (Surat al-Mujadala, 14) Muslims are against homosexuality and Darwinism. But hypocrites consider these as friends and guardians. Wherever there is a member of the deep state, a treacherous plotter, a liar, a snob or evil people who want to do harm to Islam, hypocrites go and find those persons in a peculiar way.

If Muslims can detect what hypocrites have found, then they can intellectually make them ineffective. Otherwise, Muslims cannot designate them easily by themselves. Muslims cannot find such dirty people. They can only lay hold of those that hypocrites have found. Hypocrites are like ‘hunting dogs’ because they will find the most devilish people amongst unbelievers. When Muslims ensnare the ones that hypocrites have found, then they make them ineffective through intellect and wisdom. Otherwise how could Muslims find them? The peculiar interest of hypocrites and opponents of Islam towards Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi

It is quite a striking fact that some people who have an overt hostility toward Islam show such an intense interest and apparent sympathy to some of the views of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi. Even so, the cases of some people who take an aggressive stance against God, our beloved Prophet (pbuh) and all the sacred values of our religion and who openly admit that they are against every kind of religious thought, yet adopt a total opposite position when it comes to Rumi’s views and works, should be closely examined.

Other than those people who are against Islam, it is attention-grabbing that ‘some people with hypocritical character, who present themselves as Muslims but attract attention with their apathy to Islam, are also approaching Rumi’s views genially in the same way’.

To understand the reasons for this, Rumi’s works and opinions should first be closely examined.

As it is known, Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi lived during the 13th century. One of his most important works is Masnawi. How many of the views in this book, which was written and compiled after his death, actually belonged to Mawlana Rumi and how many belonged to other people is questionable. While some historians assert that ‘Rumi’s son wrote Masnawi and ascribed it to his father’, others propound that ‘Masnawi was written by three different people’.

Whoever really wrote Masnawi, there are lots of expressions in this work that are incompatible with the Qur’an. Some acts, which are clearly stated to be ‘unlawful’ in the Qur’an, are falsely asserted to ‘be lawful in Islam’. In an obscene and improper manner, the book consists of anecdotes that comprise ‘homosexuality and child molestation’ and ‘sexual apartheid along with humiliation of women’, while ‘defending wine as lawful’, ‘asserting Masnawi as a holy book’, ‘declaring life to have come into being through evolution’ and ‘implying that Rumi is a prophet’. However these are all repugnant to the commands of Islam and the Qur’an.

Indeed, the reason for the deep interest of Islam’s opponents and those who target Islam while appearing to be Muslims toward Rumi should be looked for at this very point.

Views in Masnawi that are contrary to Islam may not belong to Rumi per se. The people who added these parts may have done it because of their own ignorance or nescience. However, in any case, the dissemination of these statements that are ascribed to Mawlana Rumi and that are incompatible with the Qur’an and Turkish-Islamic moral values and presented falsely ‘under the name of Islam’ is a grave danger both in terms of religion and society. Some Muslims who don’t have sufficient information on Islam might become ‘confused’ due to the situation they face and they might unconsciously wander away from Qur’anic principles and beliefs.

Moreover, this situation has created a very favorable ground for hypocrites who want to distort Islam in accordance with their polytheistic beliefs. These narrations -that were probably added later to Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi’s works - provide important ‘elbowroom and camouflage’ for hypocrites wanting to damage Islam by masquerading as Muslims. There have always been some people with hypocritical character, who tried to degenerate Islam by defending ideologies that attribute equals to God in every period of history. In our century such people use the explanations in Masnawi that are contradictory to the Qur’an for this purpose.

These people who ‘bear the name Muslim’ but ‘do not consider themselves as Muslims’ defend these views and beliefs that are incompatible with the moral values of Islam ‘supposedly in the name of religion’, by giving reference to Rumi’s works and thoughts.

It is a very serious ‘danger’ that people are trying to ascribe certain notions and attitudes not in line with the moral values of the Qur’an to Muslim beliefs. For this reason, it is extremely important to ‘divulge the falsity of any philosophy that is totally incompatible with Islam’.

ADNAN OKTAR:“And when the hypocrites and those with sickness in their hearts said,

‘These people have been deluded by their religion,’ meaning, ‘religion has swayed them to the wrong path.’ They believe that their own snobbish mentality is right. Therefore when we look at the hypocrites, we see they are trying to make Muslims follow ‘Darwinist’ ideology and become ‘homosexuals.’ They try to make them adherents of ‘Rumi.’

My brother, the Qur’an is sufficient for us. Homosexuality is a terribly indecent act. As revealed by Almighty God, it is a ‘a loathsome thing.’ Muslims would never approve of such an evil path. These are the statements in the Qur’an.” (A9 TV, May 25th, 2016)

ADNAN OKTAR: “Bediuzzaman says; “Under the veil of duplicity, a fearsome individual named the Sufyan will deny the messengership of Muhammad (pbuh), -may God forbid- “and coming to lead the dissemblers.’’ In other words, he will take the helm of irreligiousness. What is the dissembler? That is ‘the hypocrite’. He will take the lead of hypocrites. He organizes them. Think of him as the head of the world deep state, as their spy in the Islamic world, who “will try to destroy the Islamic Shari‘a.’’ How will he do this? He will ‘teach homosexuality’ to Muslims, try to generate a perverted conception of religion in the name of ‘philosophy of Rumi’. He will instruct ‘Darwinism’, and make friends with impious, Godless ones that have no faith in the Book of God. He will propagandize Godlessness and this way he “will try to destroy the Islamic Shari‘a.’’

“To oppose him a luminous individual called Muhammad Mahdi of the Family of the Prophet, will come to lead the people of sainthood and perfection, who are bound to the luminous chain of the Family of the Prophet,” This means Hazrat Mahdi’s (pbuh) lineage will be known. See that here it says, “bound to the luminous chain”, and mentions of being bound to this “chain.” This is not a claim to be made with words only as that chain is established by means of ancestry. He “will come to lead the people of sainthood”, who are saints as well as the people of “perfection”. It means Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will be at the head of saintly people, religious scholars and people of perfection.

“People of perfection” has a different meaning. The word perfection is “ kamalat ” here. See that Bediuzzaman says “the people of sainthood and perfection.” He separates “the people of sainthood” and propounds that Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will also come to lead the people of “perfection.” And Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will be from the ancestry of our Prophet (pbuh), from the “Ahl al-Bayt.” Bediuzzaman also gives the name of this individual saying he will be called “Muhammad Mahdi.” This individual is not a collective personality as he mentions how this ‘individual is called.’ And he mentions of him as a person, a human being, who is “a luminous individual called Muhammad Mahdi.’’ Bediuzzaman is not speaking of a collective personality here. This “luminous individual” will be making “the collective personality of the Sufyan” ineffective, see that he acknowledges a collective personality here, that of Sufyan, saying this one will possess a collective personality. But he makes it clear that ‘Mahdi will come as an individual.’ Then Bediuzzaman says, “and he will do away with the current of dissemblers,” meaning the current of hypocrites, “which will be the collective personality of the Sufyan, and scatter it” in Sixth Sign, Letters , p. 56-57 . This is being done right now. Hypocrites are cornered everywhere.” (A9 TV, June 1st, 2016)

Hypocrites among the People of Lot were endorsing homosexuality

The lifestyles of the hypocrites in the past, their interests, characters and attitudes are very much parallel to those of today’s hypocrites. Therefore, in order to thoroughly analyze and identify today’s hypocrites, we need to call attention to the hypocrites that have passed by and look into their state of affairs. The Qur’an informs of the stories of past communities where ‘hypocrites had a big role to play in legitimizing, spreading and normalizing homosexuality’, an indecent abomination which led to God’s wrath upon them.

In history when ‘homosexuality’ is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is of course ‘the People of Lot.’ God reveals this truth in the Qur’an as follows: "And Lot, when he said to his people, ‘Do you commit an obscenity not perpetrated before you by anyone in all the worlds?” (Surat al-Araf, 80) As it can be understood from the verse, before the People of Lot, homosexuality was not practiced in any other community. This is an obscenity, and an evil form of deviance that God does not approve. Among the People of Lot, homosexuality was widespread and they were ultimately destroyed because this community did not correct their deviant attitude and continued with their wrong-doing, in spite of the warnings of the Prophet Lot (pbuh). The Qur’an informs how the Prophet Lot (pbuh) warned the homosexually perverted people and called them to the true path of God as follows:

"Of all beings, do you lie with males, leaving the wives God has created for you? You are a people who have overstepped the limits.” (Surat ash-Shu'ara, 165-166)

"You come with lust to men instead of women. You are indeed a depraved people.” (Surat al-A'raf, 81)

Those who consider homosexuality as legitimate and go down this road are openly breaking God’s laws. God reveals that this deviant affair is made ‘unlawful (haram)’ in the Qur’an. However the People of Lot is ‘a very unruly community.’ They did not turn away from this abomination; on the contrary, they threatened their Prophet who called them to the right path and informed them of their wrong actions with exile:

“They said, ‘Lot, if you do not desist you will be expelled.” (Surat ash-Shu'ara, 167)

Despite their transgression and threats, Lot (pbuh) did not make concessions from his determination and continued to warn his people in the same way:

He said, “I am someone who detests the deed you perpetrate. My Lord, rescue me and my family from what they are doing.” (Surat ash-Shu'ara, 168-169)

This reaction of Lot (pbuh) is because homosexuality is an obscenity and unlawful indecency that could never be approved of. Of course, it is necessary to note that being against homosexuality certainly does not indicate permitting any physical harm to be inflicted on these people. What needs to be done is to warn people against this deviation, explain them the straight path and prevent this abomination from spreading in society.

Homosexuality, as revealed explicitly in the Qur’an, is ‘an indecent act.’ Preventing such a deviance from spreading in society is the responsibility of all Muslims. Believers should not just sit and watch this situation. They should not consent to any propaganda about this obscenity, not allow for its promotion and prevent people from promoting this indecency. To ensure that they do not support this deviant act unconsciously and do not show tendency to such immorality, ignorant and uninformed people should be educated with the Qur’an.

In fact, Lot (pbuh) warned his community with a very open, sincere and comprehensible way and explained to them the obscenity, repulsiveness and evil of what they were doing. He clearly stated that they were an unruly community overstepping the limits because of their actions. Even then his people responded to him in a furious and threatening manner and decided that Lot (pbuh) and the faithful believers with him should be exiled from their land. Lot (pbuh) turned to God and prayed to Him to save his family and himself from this perverted, homosexual and evil community. God accepted his prayers and saved his whole family, ‘except for his wife’ and destroyed the rest of his community. As God reveals in the Qur’an:

Therefore We rescued him and all his family – except for an old woman who remained behind. Then We utterly destroyed the rest. (Surat ash-Shu'ara, 170-172)

Almost all people know about the homosexual deviance of the People of Lot and their destruction as a result of this. However, ‘the role of the hypocrites of the time’ in the popularization of this perverted indecency escapes from people’s attention. It is very important that Muslims know about this perilous nature of hypocrites very well. Whatever ploys or insidious methods they have put to use in history, they will continue implementing the same system of satan today. Therefore, every detail as to the hypocrite character revealed in the Qur’an is very crucial and instructive for all Muslims.

In a hadith our Prophet (pbuh) pointed out this danger with his following words, “There is nothing I fear for my ummah [Islamic community] more than the deed of the people of Lot.” (At-Tirmidhi, 1457) . In another hadith he warned his community that ‘the People of Lot had committed the most indecent and loathsome abomination’ and said:

“Cursed is the one who does the action of the people of Lot.” (Narrated by Ahmad, 1878: Classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 5891)

Saying, God would not look at the face of those who come with lust to men (expels them from His Mercy).” (Kutub al-Sittah, Hadith no:1607, Narrator: Ibh-Abbas, Source: At-Tirmidhi, Rada 12, (1165) ) our Prophet (pbuh) pointed out that ‘homosexuality is a deviant act that God made forbidden.’ In addition to this, the religious scholars in the Islamic world have always been in consensus that homosexuality is an abomination and unlawful, and they have never fallen into dispute on this matter. That being so, both from the verses of the Qur’an and the hadiths of our Prophet (pbuh) it is clearly comprehensible that homosexuality is a deviant, loathsome, evil, abnormal and disgusting obscenity.

In one verse of the Qur’an, “Do you not see those who have turned to people with whom God is angry?...” (Surat al-Mujadala, 14) it is pointed out that hypocrites ‘befriend people who carry out actions that God dislikes or reveals as unlawful.’ Also at the time of Prophet Lot (pbuh) this verse was manifested and the hypocrites who were in the community of Lot (pbuh) secretly supported the homosexuals among his people. In order for these deviant people to go on with their repulsive affairs, they ‘provided them with intelligence’ and did everything in their power to make them stronger.

Hypocrites have made this deviant and perfidious alliance at every period of history; they have always advocated on behalf of homosexuals and the abominating perverts as well as the deviant ideas of their own time. They have endeavored to spread these deviances, backed the ones who have carried out these repulsive ugly actions and encouraged that these perverted people are seen as legitimate.

However the consequence has been to the detriment of the hypocrites; those within the People of Lot, who thought they were very cunny and smart, were destroyed in the end by God’s wrath. And so God has made an example of them to all the hypocrites who presume they can shiftily deceive Muslims.

ADNAN OKTAR: “He generally has a schizophrenic soul; meaning satan has a homosexual and schizophrenic character. We can see these characteristics from his attitude as revealed in the Qur’an. For example, the one who came to the People of Lot was satan. He came as a homosexual and disrupted the people there. He infected them with homosexuality.

Until that period, no community in history ever knew of such a deviance. The People of Lot did not know about homosexuality. ‘Satan’ is the one who taught them for the first time, he came to them in human form. He guided them as such. When the angels came; you know that they were taking an aim at the angels there. Satan provoked them to come onto the angels. And, you know that Almighty God perished the whole community by leaving no stone unturned. The crime there was homosexuality. This is the reason for the destruction of the People of Lot; that is homosexual perversion. God reveals, ‘You come with lust to men instead of women…’ (Surat al-Araf, 81) and now there is hostility against women in many places. They have then let go of women and come towards men.” (A9 TV, June 3rd, 2016)

The hypocrite wife of Prophet Lot (pbuh) provided intelligence to the unbelievers and backed homosexuals of the time

With the stories revealed in the Qur’an, God shows us the way about how to react and how to behave when faced with similar examples today. One of the examples given in the Qur’an in order to unravel the connections of hypocrites with homosexuals and how they support them is the wife of Prophet Lot (pbuh). This woman was from the family of the Prophet Lot (pbuh); she was his wife, but because she had a hypocritical character, she was in contact with this deviant and homosexual community, which the prophet struggled against with great determination. She befriended them and became their confidante and she sided with them against the prophet.

She believed that strength and honor was not with Lot (pbuh) and believers, but with this homosexual community. She thought that homosexuals were a group accepted and advocated by a majority of the popular, wealthy and influential segment of the society and decided that it would be more rational to side with them.

This wannabe, debased, self-seeking and sycophant approach is the general attitude of hypocrites who are subservient to unbelievers. They think that they are ‘very smart and shrewd’ and Muslims are people who do not know how to protect their own worldly interests and who are ‘fools’ (Surat al-Baqara, 13) as revealed in the verse. They believe that they are protecting their worldly interests by siding with people whom they think are strong and that Muslims are in vain siding with the weak. They are not aware how humiliating and insulting it is to befriend people who embrace this loathsome abomination only for personal gain.

Just like every other hypocrite, the hypocrite wife of Lot (pbuh) was acting in line with such irreligious stance. While Lot (pbuh) was striving against this deviant group inside his community, his hypocrite wife was secretly confiding with homosexuals intending to carry out factious deeds against the prophet. She did not approve of Lot’s (pbuh) attitude –surely the Prophet Lot (pbuh) is beyond this- and sided with the homosexuals at the risk of going against him as a result. Since she thought that homosexuals were a majority and stronger, she hoped to reap some personal benefits. She was making worldly plans like, “Maybe I can gain money and power, and reputation, or I can get people’s respect and protection by leaning my back on powerful people and be comfortable all through my life and turn out to be a prominent figure.” Otherwise, of course she knew that this deviant community was made up of insidious and abhorrent people with debased characters. But since she did not have high moral virtues, she did not care about their perverted actions.

The hypocrite wife of Lot (pbuh) could have left him and other believers to lead a life among these deviant people whom she admired. However, it became appealing to her to stay among the believers in order to stealthily support this deviance and play unruly tricks against the believers. She preferred to stay with the prophet to pursue her plots there, thinking that she would become a very significant personality among the unbelievers and homosexuals depending on her level of treachery against Muslims.

The wife of Lot (pbuh) who followed this point of view gathered intelligence about the prophet and the believers, and then communicated this information to homosexuals of her community as a crucial duty. In those days when there was an intense struggle between believers and the irreligious community composed of homosexual perverts, this hypocrite woman posed as a believer and ‘communicated all the intelligence she gathered to the homosexuals in her community.’ She was ‘spying’ against the believers insidiously. She ‘transferred information’ to the opposite side in treachery and betrayal. She aided the homosexuals by providing intelligence day and night through reports such as “The prophet and his companions told such and such about you,” and “They will be meeting at this venue and will be doing this.”

In our day, as revealed with the verse of the Qur’an, “... and some among you would have listened for them (and spied for them)..." (Surat at-Tawba, 47), hypocrites support the homosexual community by providing intelligence against Muslims. In addition, they resort to insidious statements like, “Why do you not allow homosexuals?” “Why do you not give them freedom?” or “Why do you not let them live their lifestyle freely?” with an attempt to legitimize this deviance that has no place in Islam. It is of no concern to the hypocrites that homosexuals are in deviance; they know this for sure but do not care. Hypocrites only look out for their own interests, because they have no dignity. They do not have any fear of God, they do not abide by the moral values of the Qur’an, and they have no concerns for being ethical or avoiding shameful acts as they don’t have any respect for themselves.

This hypocrite woman who supported homosexuals day and night, despite the fact that she was from the prophet’s household, is a point to notice for all believers. This woman had turned out to be the head supporter of the homosexuals who were in utter deviance at that time and she made history like this. In the interpretation of al-Tabari, she is described as follows:

"As for the wife of Prophet Lut, she used to inform the people of the city (Sodom), who committed the awful sexual act (sodomy), whenever a guest was entertained by her husband.” (Al-Tabari, Tafsir Ibn Kathir, v.10)

The hypocrite wife of Lot (pbuh) sided with the homosexual community hoping to derive personal benefits but in the end she could not reach her goals. God perished her together with the deviant people. She faced God’s wrath together with the people whom she became accomplices with in horrible obscenity and indecent acts. Being the wife of a prophet did not help her at all.

So We rescued him and his family – except for his wife. We ordained her to be one of those who stayed behind. We rained down a rain upon them. How evil is the rain of those who are warned! (Surat an-Naml, 57-58)

They said, “Lot, we are messengers from your Lord. They will not be able to get at you. Set out with your family – except for your wife – in the middle of the night and none of you should look back. What strikes them will strike her as well. Their promised appointment is the morning. Is the morning not close at hand?” (Surah Hud, 81)

It is stated in the Torah that Prophet Lot’s (pbuh) wife turned into a "pillar of salt”

This incident is related in the Torah as follows:

Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the Lord out of the heavens.  Thus He overthrew those cities and the entire plain, destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land.  But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the Lord.  He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace. (Genesis 19:24-28)

… if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if He rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless  (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. … (2 Peter 2:6-10)

The wife of Prophet Noah (pbuh) supported the deviants of her community and provided intelligence to unbelievers against the Prophet

Even though Prophet Noah (pbuh) invited his community countless times for them to follow God’s religion and give up on their deviant affairs, they denied the prophet and continued to live as idolaters. Following this, the leaders of his community attempted to defame Noah (pbuh) –in their own twisted minds- by accusing him with slanders like ‘trying to get precedence over them’ and of ‘madness’; they decided to spy on him and keep him under pressure. Following this, God instructed the Prophet Noah (pbuh) to build an ark and revealed to him that unbelievers would be punished through getting drowned, and only the believers would be saved.

With the verse of the Qur’an, “God has made an example for those who are unbelievers: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were married to two of Our servants who were righteous but they betrayed them and were not helped at all against God. They were told, ‘Enter the fire along with all who enter it.’” (Surat at-Tahrim, 10), God reveals that the wife of Noah (pbuh) was perished with the rest of the unbelievers, just like the wife of Lot (pbuh).

This is because the wife of Noah (pbuh) was a hypocrite just like the wife of Lot (pbuh) and ‘betrayed the prophet and cooperated with the unbelievers of that time.’ She carried intelligence to them against the prophet and other Muslims and reported the believers to the tyrants of their community. ((Ibn Jarir) Mawdudi, Tafhimu'l -Qur'an , Insan Publications: 6/369) She supported an irreligious community who showed unruly behavior against the prophet. In addition to this, ‘she made the same flagrant claims as the unbelievers and tried to accuse the prophet of ‘madness’ –surely the prophet is beyond this- and caused mischief’, and ‘she conspired with the enemies of the Prophet Noah (pbuh) and disclosed his domestic secrets about revelation unto pagans and hypocrites’. (Ragib al-Isfahani, Curriculum: 163) She befriended the community of unbelievers forming evil alliances, to give support to their deviance.

The fact that the Noah’s (pbuh) wife was a hypocrite just like the wife of Lot (pbuh) is told in the Tafsir Ibn Abbas in the following words:

The wives of Noah (pbuh) and Lot (pbuh): who were under two of our righteous slaves (yet betrayed them) yet opposed them in religion, displaying belief outwardly while hiding their disbelief inwardly, such that they kept their hypocrisy in their hearts. (Tanwīr al-Miqbās min Tafsīr Ibn 'Abbās, 66:10, p. 677; Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Baydawi)

Even though she was married to a holy prophet whom God is pleased with and has love for, and gives the glad tidings of His heaven, this closeness did not avail Noah’s (pbuh) wife. On the contrary, she was inflicted with God’s torment upon her because of the hypocritical character she displayed when she was together with the prophet.

Sayyidina Abdullah Ibn Abbas (ra) narrated: “The wife of Noah was used to tell the people that he was insane. She did betray him in religion. Not only did she refuse to believe but she also incited others to reject and not to listen to him.” (Tanwīr al-Miqbās min Tafsīr Ibn 'Abbās, 66:10, p. 677; also in Al-Tabari, Al-Zamakhshari, Razi, Ibn Kathir, Qurtubi, interpretation of the related verse)

According to another narrative, the wife of the Prophet Noah used to expose his secrets, informing his oppressive people whenever any person embraced the faith with him. (Al-Tabari, Qur’an Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 66:10)
