Bigotry: The Dark Danger

Passages from the Torah that refer to the suffering of Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh)

He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not. (Isaiah, 53:3)

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. (Isaiah,53:5-7)

Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over thy brethren, And let thy mother's sons bow down to thee. Cursed beevery one that curse you, and blessed be every one that bless you. (Genesis, 27:29)

Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth have taken their place, and the rulers are fixed in their purpose, against the Lord, and against the king of his selection, saying, "Let us break their bonds asunder, and cast away their cords from us."(Psalms, 2:1-3)

The Messiah, as it is written, and the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge of the fear of the Lord... This teaches that He loaded him with good deeds and suffering as a mill [is laden]. (Talmud, Sanhedrin 93b)

... In the generation in which the son of David will come there will be prosecution against scholars... [There will be] test after test...(Talmud, Kethuboth 112b)

... A reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see me laugh me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,"He trusts in the Lord; Let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, since he delights in Him." (Psalms, 22:6-8)

Be not far from me! For trouble is near... Many bulls have compassed me; strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. For dogs have compassed me: A company of evil-doers have inclosed me; they pierced my hands and my feet.(Psalms, 22:11-13,16)

It is God who sends punishment on my haters, and puts peoples under my rule.He makes me free from my haters; I am lifted up over those who come up against me: You have made me free from the violent man.Because of this I will give You praise, O Lord, among the nations, and will make a song of praise to Your name. Great deliverance gives He to His king, and shows lovingkindness to His anointed, to David and to his seed, for evermore. (Psalms,18:47-50)

... O Lord: O my strength, come quickly to my help! Deliver my soul from the sword; my only one from the power of the dog! Be my saviour from the lion's mouth; let me go free from the horns of the cruel oxen. (Psalms, 22:19-21)

But I had faith in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God.My times are in Your hand: Deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.Let Your servant see the light of Your face; in Your mercy be my saviour!(Psalms,31:14-16)

Take not away Your gentle mercies from me, O Lord; let Your mercy and Your faith keep me safe for ever. For unnumbered evils are round about me... so that I am bent down with their weight; they are more than the hairs of my head... Be pleased, O Lord, to take me out of danger; O Lord, come quickly and give me help. Let those who go after my soul for its destruction have shame and trouble together; let them be turned back and made foolish who take pleasure in my trouble. Let them be desolate by reason of their shame that tell me, "Aha! Aha!" Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in You. Let such as love your salvation say continually, "Let the Lord be exalted!" (Psalms,40:11-16)

Then You spoke in vision to your saints, and said, "I have bestowed strength on the warrior. I have exalted a young man from the people... With whom My hand shall be established. My arm will also strengthen him. The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him. But My faithfulness and My lovingkindness shall be with him; and in My name shall his horn be exalted. (Psalms,89:19-24)

My eyes have seen trouble come on my haters; my ears have news of the fate of the evil-doers who have come up against me.(Psalms,92:11)

I love the Lord, because He heareth my voice and my supplications.Because He has turned His ear to me, therefore I will call on Him as long as I live. The cords of death surrounded me... I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of the Lord: O Lord, I beseech Thee, deliver my soul. The Lord is full of grace and righteousness; truly, He is a God of mercy.(Psalms,116:1-5)

Take away from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept Thy testimonies. Rulers make evil designs against me; but Your servant gives thought to Your rules. Your testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors. (Psalms,119:22-24)

The cords of the wicked have wrapped me round; but I have not forgotten Your law. (Psalms,119:61)

The proud have forged a lie against me: With my whole heart will I keep Thy precepts. Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in Your law. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; That I may learn Your statutes. The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver. (Psalms,119:69-72)

Let Your tender mercies come to me, that I may live; for Your law is my delight. Let the proud be put to shame; for they have overthrown me wrongfully: But I will meditate on Your precepts. Let those that fear You turn unto me; and they shall know Your testimonies. (Psalms,119:77-79)

All of your commandments are faithful. They persecute me wrongfully. Help me! They had almost wiped me from the earth, but I didn't forsake Your precepts. (Psalms,119:86-87)

I am Yours. Save me, for I have sought your precepts. The wicked have waited for me, to destroy me; but I will consider Your testimonies. (Psalms,119:94-95)

Rulers have been cruel to me without cause; but I have the fear of Your word in my heart. I am delighted by Your saying, like a man who makes discovery of great wealth. I am full of hate and disgust for false words; but I am a lover of Your law. (Psalms,119:161-163)

In my distress, I cried to the Lord. He answered me. O Lord, be the saviour of my soul from false lips, and from the tongue of deceit!(Psalms120:1-2)

There will I cause the horn of David to bud forth; I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. His enemies will I clothe with shame; but upon himself shall his crown flourish. (Psalms132:17-18)

I cried unto You, O Lord: I said, You are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. Attend unto my cry... Deliver me from my persecutors; For they are stronger than I.Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name: the righteous shall compass me about; for You shall deal bountifully with me.(Psalms142:5-7)

Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors:yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.(Isaiah, 53:12)

Don't you be afraid, for I am with you; don't be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Behold, all those who are incensed against you shall be put to shame and confounded: those who strive with you shall be as nothing, and shall perish. You will make search for your haters but they will not be there; those who make war against you will be as nothing and will come to destruction.(Isaiah, 41:10-12)

... All those who come together to make an attack on you, will be broken against you... No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness which is of me, says the Lord. (Isaiah, 54:15-17)

They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come. Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness. The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits; of whom we said, under his shadow we shall live among the nations. (Lamentations, 4:18-20)
