The Prophet Jesus’ (pbuh) Human Characteristics and His Being a Servant of God

The Prophet Jesus (pbuh) is a Human Being

... He [Jesus] is the son of man. "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear His [God's] voice and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. (John, 5:27-29)

Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. (Acts, 2:22)

The Prophet Jesus' (pbuh) Birth, Lineage and Family

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus... (Matthew, 1:21)

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. (Luke, 2:6-7)

Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. (Mark, 3:31)

The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Hosanna in the highest!" When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?" The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee." (Matthew, 21:9-11)

Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?"... (Mark, 6:3)

The Prophet Jesus' (pbuh) Childhood, Knowledge and Physical Development

Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign... (Luke, 2:34)

And the child [Jesus] grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. (Luke, 2:40)

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (Luke, 2:52)

After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem... Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers... (Luke, 2:43-47)

The Prophet Jesus' (pbuh) Eating and Drinking

And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence. (Luke, 24:41-43)

While Jesus was having dinner at Levi's house... (Mark, 2:15)

When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. And while they were eating, he said, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me." (Matthew, 26:20-21)

... He [Jesus] was hungry. (Matthew, 4:2)

Jesus..." returned from the Jordan... He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. (Luke, 4:1-2)

Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?" (John, 4:6-7)

Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. (Matthew, 26:23)

While Jesus was having dinner at Levi's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. (Mark, 2:15)

Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. (Luke, 7:36)

While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came... (Mark, 14:3)

While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me." (Mark, 14:18)

"It is one of the Twelve," he replied, "one who dips bread into the bowl with me." (Mark, 14:20)

Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. (Luke, 5:29)

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" (Matthew, 26:17)

Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. (Mark, 3:20)

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." (Mark, 6:31)

The Prophet Jesus' (pbuh) Becoming Tired and Resting and Sleeping

... Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well... (John, 4:6)

Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion... (Mark, 4:38)

Examples of the Prophet Jesus' (pbuh) Other Human Characteristics

Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. (Mark, 3:9)

The Prophet Jesus (pbuh) is a Servant of God

When God raised up His servant [Jesus], He sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways. (Acts, 3:26)

Jesus said to him, "... For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only." (Matthew, 4:10)

The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' (Mark, 12:29-30)

"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him... When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God"... (Mark, 32-34)

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.'" (Luke, 4:8)

 The Prophet Jesus (pbuh) is a Prophet Sent by God

[Jesus:] By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but Him [God] Who sent me. (John, 5:30)

... [God] Who sent me has Himself testified concerning me... (John, 5:37)

... They believed that You sent me. (John, 17:8)

Then Jesus... "I am not here on my own, but He [God] Who sent me is true. You do not know Him [God], but I know Him because... He sent me." (John, 7:28-29)

Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one [God's messenger] He has sent." (John, 6:29)

For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God... (John, 3:34)

After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the prophet who is to come into the world." (John, 6:14)

The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee." (Mathew, 21:11)

... "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people." (Luke, 24:19)

Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." (Mark, 1:38)

And they took offense at him [Jesus]. But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor." (Matthew, 13:57)

They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he [Jesus] was a prophet. (Matthew, 21:46)

Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor." (Mark, 6:4)

... For they do not know the One [God] Who sent me. [God is beyond that.] (John, 15:21)

When God raised up His servant [Jesus], He sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways. (Acts, 3:26)

... But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about." Then his disciples said to each other, "Could someone have brought him food?" "My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of Him [God] Who sent me and to finish His work." (John, 4:31-34)

They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country. (Luke, 7:16-17)

The Prophet Jesus (pbuh) Fulfills God's Commands

... I do exactly what my Lord has commanded me... (John, 14:31)

Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the messenger can do nothing by himself... (John, 5.19)

... I always do what pleases Him. (John, 8:29)

[Jesus:] "By myself I can do nothing... I seek not to please myself but Him [God] Who sent me." (John, 5:30)

[Jesus:] "... not to do my will but to do the will of Him [God] Who sent me." (John, 6:38)

 It is God Who Makes the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) Speak

... The words I say to you are not just my own... (John, 14:10)

Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from Him Who sent me. (John, 7:16)

[Jesus:] "For I did not speak of my own accord, but my Lord Who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. I know that His command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what my Lord has told me to say." (John, 12:49-50)

[Jesus:] "He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to my Lord Who sent me." (John, 14:24)

[Jesus:] "... But He [God] Who sent me is true, and what I have heard from Him I tell the world." (John, 8:26)

For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God... (John, 3:34)

It is God Who Gives the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) Everything

... And the power of the Lord was present for him [Jesus] to heal the sick. (Luke, 5:17)

"All things have been committed to me by my Lord"... (Matthew, 11:27)

Jesus knew that God had put all things under His power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God. (John, 13:3)

"My Lord, Who has given them to me, is greater than all..." (John, 10:29)

"... No one can come to me unless God has enabled him." (John, 6:65)

The Jews were amazed and asked, "How did this man get such learning without having studied?" Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from Him [God]  Who sent me. If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the One [God] Who sent him is a man of truth..." (John, 7:15-18)

The Prophet Jesus (pbuh) Prays to and Worships God

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed... (Matthew, 26:39)

After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray... (Matthew, 14:23)

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. (Mark, 1:35)

After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. (Mark, 6:46)

... Jesus said to his disciples, "Sit here while I pray." (Mark, 14:32)

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. (Luke, 6:12)

Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him... (Luke, 9:18)

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place... (Luke, 11:1)

... But I have prayed for you [to God], Simon, that your faith may not fail... (Luke, 22:32)

Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." (Matthew, 26:36)

During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One [God] Who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. (Hebrews, 5:7)

"Bring them here to me," he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish... he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. (Matthew, 14:18-19)

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. (Luke, 24:30)

The Prophet Jesus (pbuh) is Tested

[Jesus:] "You are those who have stood by me in my trials." (Luke, 22:28)

The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.'" (Luke, 4:5-8)

Then Jesus was led... into the desert to be tempted by the devil. (Matthew, 4:1)

Jesus... returned from the Jordan and... for forty days he was tempted by the devil. (Luke, 4.1-2)

And he [Jesus] was in the desert forty days, being tempted by satan... (Mark, 1:13)

After the devil had finished tempting Jesus in every possible way, he left him until another time. (Luke, 4:13)
